President Calls on Ethiopians to Sustain Unity, Peace

President Mulatu Teshome urged all Ethiopians to stand for unity, peace and development emphasizing that stability is the foundation on which the country can maintain the ongoing sweeping reform.

In his keynote address to the nation in association with the New Year, the President expressed his wishes for peaceful and prosperous 2011 Ethiopian New Year.

The President said “The New Year is, a year which we build our nation together having one goal and ensure the interest of the people.”

Putting peace, unity and democracy at the core of the ongoing reform that the country to sustain, the people should unite in the year to come, he said.

“We need to focus on major agenda instead of focusing on minor differences,” he noted.

He recalled the instability which occurred in the country and urged the public to take lesson from the past blunders.

The people must come together to uphold steadfast growth and development through avoiding conflicts and variances, he said and underlined that the need for cooperation for ascertain comprehensive development in the country.

Beyond the effort of the government to ensure peace and actability as well sustainable economic growth, the contribution of the people is imperative, he said.

Appreciating the culture of dialogue in resolving political differences in line with the reform which the country is undertaking over the past few months, the President urged to further beefed up such traditions.
