Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, who is the head of Ethiopia delegation to #UNGA73 meet with H.E. Mike Pompeo, United States Secretary of State and discussed on a range of issues that focus on bilateral, regional and multilateral issues to deepen common interest today in New York.
The Minister briefed Secretary of State on activities undergoing in Ethiopia to transform itself into strong democracy, build democratic institutions and carrying out deep and penetrating reform to address the short coming in this regards.
To this end, the Minister requested the Secretary of States to support ongoing institutions building to deepen democracy, ensure good governance, human rights and encourage business and trade to harness the availed opportunities in Ethiopia in various sector.
On his part, H.E. Mike Pompeo, Secretary of State take note and appreciated peaceful power transfer and a reformist undertook by Dr. Abiy Ahmed, PM of Ethiopia strive to address citizen’s expectations, needs and aspiration to democracy, rule of law, political, economic and societal equality and justice.
In line with this, H.E. Mr. Mike Pompeo said United States will work closely with the Government of Ethiopia to support the institutions building to enhance democratization, good governance and harness availed investment opportunities in various sector.
Finally, the Secretary of State lauded the ongoing positive development of peace in the Horn of Africa and reassured United States support to work with Ethiopia to advance peace and stability as it is in the benefit of their and the region’s interest.
