The Hadhrami people number around two million, and are reportedly divided in some 1,300 distinct tribes. They are also present around the region of Yemen, particularly in Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia. The Hadhrami people are also scattered along the Indian Ocean and can be found as far as Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Singapore. There is also new scientific evidence to suggest that they may be anciently related to the Lemba of central Africa, and the Great Zimbabwe ruins.
The Hadhrami people speak a distinct Hadhrami Arabic, which belongs to the Semitic branch of the Afro-Asiatic family
