Ethiopian State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Aklilu Hailemichael met with Stefan Liebing, Chairman of German-Africa Business Association also known as Afrika-Verein today.
Through its well-established networks, the Association promotes exchange between German and African representatives from both business and politics.
The two sides discussed on possible ways of enhancing the cooperation between the two countries giving particular emphasis on the energy sector.
The Afrika-Verein Chairperson, Dr. Stefan along with company representatives from Andritz, one of Germany’s leading global suppliers of metal forming technologies, underscored their keenness to be part of “energizing the development” in the country.
Andritz, according to the company’s managers, has an interest to provide high level and reliable technological equipments to provide assistance to energy projects in the country.
Dr. Aklilu, praising the government of Germany for its consistent efforts towards assisting the development schemes in the country in multifaceted areas, underscored that his government has attached greater importance to such proposals of supporting the wider use of small/large scale solar and hydropower facilities and energy-efficient devices in the country.
As energy is something that is most demanding in the growing economy of Ethiopia at the moment, Dr. Aklilu noted that the second Growth and Transformation plan (GTP II) has already made it clear that the need for energy development is more than a quest now.
Dr. Stefan and company representatives are expected to meet senior officials and CEOs from Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity and Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation.
