Addis Ababa August 24/2018 The Ethiopian parliament insisted on the need to expand the diplomatic ties with Vietnam to economic cooperation to ensure mutual benefits.
Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Mufriat Kamil urged the need for stronger economic ties between the two countries during the discussion she held with President of Vietnam Trần Đại Quang in Addis Ababa.
The longstanding historical relations between the two countries should further be promoted through people-to-people relations, which will also be instrumental in fostering economic ties, she said.
Mufriat said that the parliament will contribute its part in the implementation of bilateral agreements signed between the two countries previously.
She noted that Ethiopia intends to learn from the growth and development experiences of Vietnam in the areas of agricultural transformation, FDI and other areas.
President Trần Đại Quang said that his country is ready to strengthen its relations with Ethiopia in the areas of trade and investment, and other areas of mutual interest.
Despite the geographical distance between them, the two countries have areas of mutual interest on which they can cooperate, the President added.
The President affirmed that Vietnam is ready to work towards increasing the volume of trade between the two countries which currently stands at 11 million USD.
The president lauded Ethiopia’s commendable contributions in promoting global and regional peace keeping from which Vietnam has also benefitted.
The President, who is in Ethiopia for a three day official visit, said that his government wishes to cooperate with Ethiopia on issues of international significance.
The visiting President has also announced that his country will soon open its embassy in Addis Ababa, to further strengthen the diplomatic ties that started in 1976.
