Ethiopia Leads Hotel Expansion in Eastern Africa

1,518

Ethiopia is first among the Eastern African countries in terms of hotel development, according to a report published on Friday in Addis Ababa.

The survey, carried out by the company W Hospitality Group, based in Lagos, Nigeria, detailed that the project portfolio in 2018 is almost 50 percent higher than the solid figures of last year, while Addis Ababa represents 86 percent of the total, almost 5,000 rooms in 25 hotels.

The details of the survey, which covers the entire continent, will be one of the key discussions at the Africa Hotel Investment Forum, which will return to Nairobi in October of this year.

There is also a planned expansion in Awassa, Bahir Dar, Bishoftu, Gondar, Hawassa and Langano, according to Africa Business Communities.
The incentives of the authorities, along with international conferences and the global bases for non-governmental organizations, embassies and aid agencies have boosted growth in that sector.

The CEO of W Hospitality Group, Trevor Ward, commented: ‘The expansion is really impressive. The activity has been enormous, and it is very pleasant to see that investors and operators are now looking to exploit opportunities outside the capital, in secondary cities and tourist centers.
